At 82, Someone Is Looking Up! And Why Not?

2 views I saw early today, Wednesday, 11 Jan 2023 (Manila), at around 5 AM, both Facebook sharings. 1st sharing (image inset, bottom): Butch by Mark Bennett titled “At 82, This Elderly Man Still Has To Work: Influencer Raises $50,000 In Less Than 24 Hours To Help Him Retire.” 2nd sharing (main image), dated 10 Jan 2019, my son-in-law Mark Gonzales (married to daughter Daphne) looking up below a painting at the Haraya Restaurant near UP Los Baños campus. (Haraya is co-owned by my son Paul Benjamin, who paints like that, and which I love: Impressionism.)

Butch is an 82-year old sales clerk at a Walmart store whom Rory McCartysaw at his neighborhood. He took pity on him and via GoFundMe on TikTok, raised within 24 hours $50,000; in a few days $84,255. That’s more than P4 million!

If you asked me right now, at 82, I feellike a millionaire. I’m very much alive, and I have been praying day and night to God to help me live to at least 100! I have many social projects in mind, all of them digital.

I continue to love to blog, a skill I taught myself starting some 22 years ago. I am a teacher, BS Agriculture major in Ag Edu, UP Los Baños 1965. As it happens, I taught myself: 1959 writing; 1975 editing & typewriter-driven publishing; 1985 digital writing via WordStar 1; 1987 desktop publishing via Microsoft Word.

Learning never stops if you don’t want to!

And why did I want to learn writing, editing, publishing from typewriter to personal computer (PC)? I felt the urge to sell ideas. The urge goes on: “One Man Selling Climate Change!”

As an agriculturist, where I can help others most is in farming – look at the bird on the image and the hands that hold it. I have come to the conclusion that I can serve best the Filipinos in my own country by helping conquer both Farmer Poverty and Climate Change.

Like Archbishop Fulton Sheen, we must have “A thinking head and a feeling heart” (James T Keane, americamagazine.org).

Retired clerk American senior Butch says, with his newfound riches, "I'm going to visit my kids in Florida, fix up my house and enjoy the last 10 or 12 years that I have left."

Unretiring blogger Filipino senior Frank A Hilario, without any newfound riches, says, “I’m going to visit everybody in the world, help fix up this earthly house and enjoy the last 18 years that I have left!”@517

There Are No Dull Pupils Or Students – There Are Only Dull Teachers Or Instructors! This Is A Teacher Speaking About Multiple Intelligences (MI)

I have been re-inspired to write about Harvard psychology professor Howard Gardner’s theory of Multiple Intelligences (MI) because my youngest daughter Graciela is now teaching at Potter’s Place in El Nido, Palawan – the school covering elementary grades up to senior high school. As a teacher, I learned years ago that each individual has one’s own intelligences.
