“When Nobody Is Looking, Do You Love Your Country?” Senator Cynthia Villar Is Asking!
“Lack of country” is how I will explain the exchange of Senator Cynthia Villar, Chair of the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Food & Agrarian Reform (COFAR), and Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI) Officer In Charge Paul Limson during the COFAR hearing of on Monday, 09 Jan 2023. Like the ladies above, the lady shows love of country – alas! the gentleman (not shown) shows lack of concept of country, to say the least.
Here is the news by Jauhn Etienne Villaruel & Robert Mano: “'May Doctorate Degree Ka, Wala Kang Common Sense?' Villar Raps BAI Exec Over Importation Policy” (09 Jan 2023, ABS-CBN News, abs-cbn.com). My translation: “You Have Doctorate Degree, You Don’t Have Common Sense?”
We don’t get such incredible exchanges everyday, and while it is literally the punch of the lady straight to the balls of the gentleman, I forgive Ms Cynthia for her verbal indiscretion.
“Sen Cynthia Villar on Monday scolded and berated officials of the Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI) over… "excessive" importation of meat despite adequate supply in the country.”
Where did Ms Cynthia get her data? “Villar cited data from the Philippine Statistics Authority… showing that for the past 3 years, local pork production [was] sufficient to the market's demand.”
(My translation: “BAI, you are the one issuing import permits, how do you issue such?”
My translation: “Madam Chair, when it comes to importation, it’s the client who lodges the request, so we do not have direct control over how much or how frequent.”
Mr Limson’s reply irked Ms Cynthia. (My translation: “Who taught you that we have to import if someone wants to import? You don’t care, you simply issue the import permit. Who taught you that?”
(My translation: “When I came in, that system was already in place.”)
Ms Cynthia replied: "Di ba common sense yon? Bakit ganyan ang mentality mo?... Bakit mo tinanggap ang posisyon, hindi mo pala mahal ang livestock industry ng Pilipinas? May doctorate degree ka, wala kang common sense?" (My translation: “Isn’t that common sense? Why is your mentality like that? Why did you accept the position when you do not love the livestock industry of the Philippines? You have a doctorate degree, you don’t have common sense?”

Ms Cynthia then demanded the officer’s resignation.
Ooh la la! Now then, as far as Agriculture is concerned, the Senator is right in demanding that the BAI OIC resign, for honor’s sake.
This is a patriotic call I suppose for all of the Department of Agriculture – calling the attention of interim Secretary Ferdinand “BBM” Marcos Jr!@517
